The Prime Minister’s political advisor Rana Sanaullah has suggested that Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), could be freed from jail, if he apologized for the riots on May 9, 2023, when he was arrested for corruption and military facilities were attacked.
Sanaullah said on the Jio News program “Jirga”, which would be aired tonight, that Khan believed that he could bring a revolution through his actions and push the country into a political deadlock.
He ruled out any possibility of Khan’s methods, especially from 24–26 November 2024 in the light of PTI March towards Islamabad. I asked if Khan’s release was possible. If she used to apologize for May 9, Sanaullah replied,
“I think if he apologizes from May 9, the talks can go ahead, or perhaps we can talk.”
The PM’s aide remarked, saying that the government, led by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, did not object to if the court released PTI founder Khan, who has been in Adiala Jail for more than a year in various cases.
The former ruling party, ever since its conversation with the government reached a deadlock, has been reaching the opposition parties, starting protests with a movement to initiate protests against the ruling coalition with agitation with the aim of restoring the domination of law and constitution and securing the release of political prisoners in the country.
The comment made by Sanullah is important as political polarization is likely to deepen as political tension is expected to increase.
