Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it will leave the in-camera session of the Parliamentary Committee (PCNS) on security issues if its leaders are not allowed to meet the party’s founder, Imran Khan.
The political committee of the party insisted in a statement after a late-night meeting that its leaders should meet Khan before participating in today’s important national assembly session. PTI made it clear that it would only attend the meeting if this demand was met. The PTI’s stance comes a day after the multi-sided opposition alliance, Tehreek-e-Tahfuz-e-Aine-e-A-Pakistan (TTAP), which was led by Mahmud Khan Achkzai, announced his decision to boycott the session.
Additionally, Balochistan National Party-Megal (BNP-M) chief Sardar Akhtar Mengal and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimin (MWM) president Allama Raja Nasir Abbas announced that his parties did not attend the meeting.
The leaders of the Khan-led party urged the central leadership to call the party’s political committee meeting in response to the events and ask them to allow the party’s founder to participate.
PTI reiterated that its representatives would only participate in the in-camera session if the government allowed them to meet the former Prime Minister before much after consultation. PTI Information Secretary, Sheikh Wakas Akram, confirmed that an emergency meeting of the political committee was held to discuss the party’s stance on the in-camera session. It was unanimously decided that PTI would not participate until its leaders were reached to the mine.
