US President Donald Trump has described a day after a “very good” hour-long phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, a day after talking to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky later stated that he believed that “permanent peace could be achieved this year” under Trump’s leadership.
The potential American ownership of Ukraine’s nuclear power plants was also discussed, although Zelensky later said that it was only about the Russian-occupied Zaporizhia region.
The call of the call seems to be different from the White House’s visit to Zelanceci last month, when the two leaders and US vice president JD Vance were there. It was marked on Wednesday that both people have spoken since the meeting at the Oval Office; however, since then, their teams have met in Saudi Arabia and have negotiated the proposed 30-day ceasefire.
During his phone call with the President of the United States on Tuesday, Putin dismissed the idea for a general truce in the struggle, despite the fact that Ukraine and the United States support it. During his conversation with Trump, Zelensky said that he was open to partially starting on the attacks on energy infrastructure, rail and port facilities that could have been established quickly – but the Ukrainian president warned that if Moscow violated the terms of the ceasefire, there would be retaliation from his country.
“I understand that until we [with Russia] do not agree, unless there is a partially similar document on the ceasefire, I think everything will fly away,” he said, referring to drones and missiles.
Trump wrote that the call was aimed at bringing Russia and Ukraine “in terms of their requests and needs” and that the ceasefire effort was proceeding according to the plan. Later, in a more detailed statement, the state secretary

Trump claimed that his conversation lasted for about an hour on Wednesday. He wrote on Truth Social, “Most of the discussions were based on the call with President Putin yesterday to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of my requests and needs.” Technical teams from Ukraine and America are expected to meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
Trump told Zelanski at the White House last month that he was “gambling with World War 3” and was not adequately appreciating the United States for political and military support. After that, the United States temporarily stopped providing Ukraine with military aid and intelligence sharing but was able to improve diplomatic relations, and on 11 March, both sides agreed to a ceasefire. Putin on Tuesday agreed to prevent Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during his call with Trump.
However, he said that a complete ceasefire would be effective only when Ukrainian supporters stopped providing military assistance, a situation that Keev’s European colleagues had earlier rejected. After a few hours, both Russia and Ukraine started attacks, and Kyiv claimed that the hospital was a targets. A small fire was launched in an oil depot, according to a Ukrainian drone attack according to the officials of the Krasnodar in the southern Russian region. Despite the attacks, Keev and Moscow on Wednesday exchanged prisoners. Each side released 175 power.
Zelansky described Swap as “one of the largest”, stating that Russia contained an additional 22 “seriously injured” soldiers.
